Fresh Wolffia globosa and Wolffia arrhiza were added to the Union list as traditional foods from a third country under defined conditions. The published specifications remain decisive.
Powder requires separate consideration
For a separately assessed Wolffia globosa powder, EFSA could not establish safety for the proposed uses. One important issue was potential manganese intake.
This is not a blanket assessment of every Wolffia format, but it shows why concentration and processing matter in regulation.
Claims need product data
Nutrition and health claims require compliance with European rules and suitable analytical data. Research on the species does not automatically become a marketing claim for a product.
